Juicing vs. Blending

Some of us may be used to waking up in the morning and drinking a sugar-filled coffee, or perhaps turn to a diet soda for a caffeinated pick-me up. These drinks likely contain zero nutrients and may or may not give you increased energy, but are almost always guaranteed to make you crash later on. Are you looking for healthier options or feel a little lost about where to begin? Let us help you find what your body naturally craves.

Juicing can be viewed as a form of medicine. Cold-pressed juicers use hydraulic pressure to extract the juice from the vegetable or fruit, leaving only the highest concentrate of phytonutrients, micronutrients, antioxidants, minerals and live enzymes. It is easy to digest, and typically delivers as much nutrients in one cup as three full vegetable servings. Even more, some common colds and viruses can be cured in half the time by giving your body these nutrients.

According to a study by Johns Hopkins researchers, only 11% of 24,000 Americans surveyed eat the bare minimum of two fruit servings and three vegetable servings daily. We are clearly not providing our bodies with the essentials they need.  Even worse, most of our plant-based nutrition is processed or overcooked, leaving little or no nutrients for us to absorb. Juicing allows for these nutrients to be absorbed and also for a larger volume of produce to be consumed overall. As we remove the fiber from the produce, the juice absorbs quickly into our bloodstream and begins to provide our bodies with the nutrients it needs.

Blending should be viewed as a meal replacement in contrast to juicing. Leaving the pulp and adding superfoods, nuts or seeds will create a more hearty, robust nutritional drink. Blending fruits and vegetables gives your body a predigested compact meal that provides you with a maximum allowance of supplements while slowing down the absorption of sugar.

Are you an athlete? An athletic performance smoothie can be a blend of fruits, greens, hemp, and your favorite protein. Here at The Orange Peel we’ll keep it light for you, with minimal sugar added.

If vitality and energy is what you’re after, we recommend a veggie-based smoothie with citrus fruits such as orange and pineapple. Ginger-root, chia seeds, ginseng and bee pollen can also be added for an extra boost.

What about those of you with a sweet tooth? We’ll blend your favorite fruits such as bananas or strawberries, adding in organic peanut butter and perhaps honey or agave as a sugar substitute.

If you are new to juicing and smoothies, you should start with a smoothie. There is nothing better tasting on a hot summer day than a refreshing cold smoothie packed with healthy add-ins. At the OP, we make it easy for you reach your optimum health by taking out all the guess work and whipping up “just what the doctor ordered”. Stop by and ask any of our employees which juice or smoothie might be best for you. We’ll handcraft a smoothie to your liking from 100% natural ingredients—never from sugary sherbets or syrups.
