As the start of 2018 ushers in the perfect opportunity to set resolutions for the new year, Dixie State University is offering more resources and assistance than ever before to help you accomplish your educational goals.
For example, the University now offers 38 unique baccalaureate majors, 16 associate programs, and 16 certificates and endorsements. Factor in the available minors and emphases, and Dixie State offers 188 different academic programs. In 2017 alone, Dixie State added bachelor’s degrees in Population Health, Recreation & Sport Management, Nursing, Studio Art, Applied Sociology, Information Systems & Analytics, and Bioinformatics. To continue meeting Washington County’s need for STEM and art degrees, we are working toward adding baccalaureate degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Applied & Computational Mathematics, Cell & Molecular Biology/Biochemistry, Health Sciences, Design, Arts Production, and Music Performance in 2018.
Not only is Dixie State continually expanding its baccalaureate offerings, the University also is adding graduate degrees and online tracks. Dixie State will offer a Master of Accountancy program starting in the Fall 2018 semester and is preparing to offer other master’s degrees such as Genetic Counseling and Software Development in the fall of 2019. Additionally, as we work to expand our Dixie Online offerings, we are making more general education courses available online.
DSU’s new offerings are in line with the state of Utah’s Prosperity 2020 Goals for Education. As part of this initiative, Governor Gary Herbert has challenged the state to increase the number of residents with a postsecondary certificate or degree from 43 percent to 66 percent by the year 2020. To this end, Dixie State is working to bring education opportunities to all residents of Washington County by offering classes that fit the needs of current high schoolers, recent graduates, returning learners, and first-time adult students, all of whom are looking to expand career opportunities and fulfill education goals.
As part of Prosperity 2020, the state aims to be in the top 10 for technology jobs and businesses, and Dixie is contributing to this effort by adding more STEM degrees in addition to establishing Innovation Plaza, which will house the University’s innovative technology and entrepreneurial centers. Since its inception in October 2016, the Dixie Innovation Guidance and Solutions division has helped more than 200 students, faculty, and community members as well as alumni all over the U.S. as they work to develop products and businesses. The division has helped file more than 40 patents, with many more pending.
With a variety of quality programs, personalized attention, and plentiful “active learning. active life.” opportunities, Dixie State University is perfectly positioned to help make 2018 the year your educational goals become your educational reality.
