Restaurant Journeys: Angelica’s Mexican Grill

If you’re like most people, Mexican food is a go-to choice when it comes to dining out. Now, finding a truly excellent establishment that provides consistency with both menu and service can seem like an expedition. For those on that journey, I highly recommend you quickly make your way to the new Angelica’s Mexican Grill location on St. George Boulevard.

Owners Jack and Angelica Lancaster started out with no experience in the restaurant industry. Jack was a frequent diner and later business partner at Irmita’s Mexican Grill. When he and Angelica married, they branched off together and cultivated the idea of having a restaurant to call their own. Angelica, along with her mother, began to sample and create recipes based off of the traditional tastes they loved from growing up in Mexico. They started out with a simple location – a shack with only 1 grill, 2 chairs, and 1 table. Their beginnings may have started out small, but their following only kept increasing, eventually outgrowing their original location by leaps and bounds. Jack and Angelica set their sights on a larger building to better accommodate their expanding customer base, and on September 1, 2017 Angelica’s Mexican Grill officially opened for business.

The menu at Angelica’s packs in the best and the favorites. A fan favourite are the “Small” or street tacos. These little wonders are made with fresh, lightly crisped corn tortillas and loaded up with your choice of meat: Carne Asada, Carnitas, Pollo Asado, Chile Verde, Sweet Carnitas, or the Machaca. And word to the wise – you can’t go wrong with your choice here, so you might as well go all out and order one of each. While street tacos are to be expected at any Mexican restaurant, the Mulita was something I had never heard of before. Part corn quesadilla, part street taco, this authentic Mexican dish is stuffed with loads of cheese, meat, and beans. Make sure to take a walk on over to the salsa bar and top it off with fresh salsa and shredded cabbage. If you’re feeling up for a challenge, step right up and order the giant 16” Torta. This Mexican sandwich is stuffed to the gills with fresh sliced avocado, onion, tomato, and your choice or Carne Asada, Carnitas or Pollo Asado. Eat every crumb in 10 minutes or less and get the next Torta for free! Though their meats are delectable, Angelica’s can make most menu items vegetarian or even vegan, for those with special dietary needs or preferences.

With a made from scratch menu, catering, patio seating, dine-in beer served, as well as custom orders and vegetarian/vegan options available, Angelica’s is a place you can count on for great food and great service.

With a nearly 5 Star ratings on Yelp, Trip Advisor and Google Reviews, Angelica’s has drawn both location and national attention!
